Today I’m going to share different ways to embellish wrapped gifts with supplies you likely have on hand- especially if you are a PopFizzPaper customer. I was looking for ways to use up and clear out the crafty favorites I’ve been hoarding all year. Everything I’m sharing was sent out in a PopFizzPaper planner kit within the last year. And most, if not all of them, are on sale in the shop right now! These are simple embellishments that don’t take a lot of time (or talent) so if you have procrastinated any of your seasonal wrapping- these will be perfect for you this weekend! Although some of the examples you will see incorporate the red and green colors associated with Christmas these ideas can absolutely be applied to any type of gift all year long. Let’s get started!
Were you able to get your hands on the Crystal Cave September PopFizz Planner Kit? Then you might have the silver sequin bow hiding in your stash! It makes the perfect gift topper combined with the purple glitter washi from the Sprinkle Joy February PopFizz Planner Kit.
I love using washi instead of ribbon and I think the two of these together make the perfect sparkly gift!
Using that same purple washi (though any of your PopFizzPaper washi tapes would be great for this next idea depending on the theme you are going for) as well as the silver and gold glitter tapes available in the shop, I created not only the ribbon but also the bow for this gift!
This is a versatile embellishment because you can make the bow any size you want. I didn’t even measure it out first (though it would have saved me from having to reposition so many times) because washi can be easily removed and laid back down. Take two pieces of equal length and lay them down in an X shape. Then take 2 smaller pieces, also of equal length, and place them vertically on either end. I used an Xacto knife to trim the corners and then you’re done! I cut out simple flags from the gold washi and used those as the tails of the bow! I love how this turned out and there are literally thousands of combinations you could make out of washi! Wouldn’t this look so cute on the back of an envelope?
My next embellishment is a throwback for those OG PopFizz Fans who were getting the Planner Kit in December of last year! Do you remember that awesome snowflake punch? How perfect is it for this time of year? Pull that thing out. If you didn’t get that kit- check your stash of paper punches and find one that you like! Then check for any leftovers from the Beauty Babe October PopFizz Planner Kit- specifically that gold glitter washi tape and the gorgeous gold vellum paper. These are both available in the shop and totally worth stocking up on!
I added snowflakes to the gift out of both the vellum AND the washi tape! It was fun punching snowflakes out of the washi because I could stick them right on the gift without having to add any adhesive. For the vellum snowflakes, I simply used my TomBow Permanent Adhesive runner (do you still have that from the Picture This August PopFizz Planner kit? I’m still using and loving mine!). I added a little bit of baker’s twine around the gift and I was finished!
Now that your pretty gold vellum sheet has a bunch of cute snowflake shapes in it why not cut some tags?! I wanted to give mine a green background because it was for a Christmas gift but choose any color you’d like. I grabbed the gorgeous watercolor papers from the Secret Garden May PopFizz Planner Kit and cut out the same tag shape from both pages.
Layer them together and you have a beautiful custom tag! I love when things have movement to them so I didn’t even glue the pieces together (although you certainly could) I just held them together with the skeleton binder clip we got in the Picture This August PopFizz Planner kit. There are silver ones on sale in the shop!
Do you remember those BEAUITFUL sequins we got in the Natural Beauty March PopFizz Planner Kit? Perhaps you hoarded half the bag all year like me because you couldn’t bear to part with them? Or maybe, like me, you picked up a set of the green sequins on sale in the shop? Well now all you need is a needle and thread and you can make some sequin trim!
I wasn’t sure what I was getting myself into when I was threading the needle for this one. I’d never done anything like this before but I just knew it was going to look so pretty that I had to try! It turned out to be a very easy process that I completed while watching a YouTube video! I don’t know if there is a wrong way to thread sequins but I decided not to do any pattern, I just mixed up the green sequins and put them through the needle 3 or 4 at a time! To attach it to the gift I tied the thread underneath and stuck a piece of washi over it to make sure it didn’t slide around! You really don’t need as many sequins as you think because they will spread out and lay flat against the gift taking up a lot more room!
I have another embellishment for you from the Natural Beauty March PopFizz Planner Kit- this time using the leaf sticky notes. I grabbed a scrap piece of red cardstock from my stash, and a single gold sequin also from that same kit. Put them all together and you can make a poinsettia! You’ll never believe how easy this was- take a look!
First peel off one of the sticky notes and use it as your template. Trace it 8 times on the red cardstock for your petals! Glue down your first four petals flat on the gift with space between each one. For your top four petals lightly fold them in half lengthwise to give the flower dimension. Glue each petal in the spaces between the ones you already placed. Adhere your gold sequin in the center and slide in two of the darkest sticky notes off to one side of the flower! Voila! That’s it! You made a poinsettia!
My last embellishment is the simplest and one of my favorites. It’s great if you are wrapping your gift with plain kraft paper like I am! Did you get the Be Bold, Be Brave, Be You January PopFizz Planner Kit? Or have you since picked up the Colorbox Chalk inkpad available and on sale in the shop? Well all you need now is a pencil with an eraser on the end.
Stick your eraser in the ink, press it down to the paper, and you’ve got yourself polka dot wrapping paper! It’s such a simple idea that makes a big impact to the overall look of your gift!
There you have it! 7 DIY embellishments for making your wrapped gifts look spiffy all year long! Whether you prefer washi tape:
or paper:
you will have everyone ooing and ahhing over your gift! Let them think you spent hours perfecting each one when really you spent 10 minutes or less! If you try out any of these DIYs with your PFP supplies use the hashtag #PopFizzPaper so I can be sure to see them!
